Pod change

Well we made it 2 1/2 days with one pod. The pod is suppose to last 3 days. :( The back of the pod came off of the sticky pad that is stuck to E. It was just about to come off so I figured we would just change it before something would happen with the insulin and E blood numbers could be messed with.

I do have to say I was a little disappointed we did not make it to 3 days. We shall have to see how pod number 2 goes. We might have to put some kind of tape to help the pod stay on. Ean is very rough and I have a feeling he was messing with the pod. In time he will get use to it and not even notice the pod.

Ean's numbers have been really good on the pump. I am loving the omnipod so much!!!

  2. BUMMER! I'm sure you can surf around and find some forums that can help. I think this is a fairly common issue -- not just with the pod but with all adhesives...from other pump sites and CGM sites as well.

We don't have personal experience with the adhesive from Addy's sites not sticking, however, when we trialed the Navigator, we would cut strips off of an IV dressing and re-enforce the edges...I also heard that Tincture of Benzoin helps, but haven't ever tried it...

    Good luck!

  3. I'm glad things are going well. We also had a little trouble in the first couple of weeks with Pods coming off and I think you are correct, that Ean will get used to it and you will see less of this.

  4. Crystall, Another mom I know has a young daughter on the Pod and highly recommends this tape: http://www.molnlycke.com/us/Wound-Care-Products/Product-Selector---Wound-division/Tabs/Products/Mefix/

Her issues are not adhesive related, but more lifestyle, "knocking it around" related.

  5. Hi Crystall,
Glad you made it 2 1/2 days (better than 1 right?!) We start on my daughter"s Pod this Monday. I joined a great group at TuDiabetes of people who use OmniPods. There are tons of ideas for adhering the Pod and keeoing it on and even solutions for keeping the Pod attached to the backing when all is well (believe it or not - superglue!) Check out the group here: http://www.tudiabetes.org/group/omnipodusers
Hope this helps and keep us posted how it all goes! Penny

Also, here are some pictures of Nate wearing his pod (placement is tough with these little ones)

2 1/2 days is awesome. Nate wore his 1st live pod for only a few hours before we had to do a site change. You will get there! Trust me.

Also, when Nate loses a pod early - I remove the insulin from the pod with the sterile syringe from the new pod and use it again! No use in letting good insulin go to waste!!!

I look forward to getting to know you and your super cute family!

  9. I know I'm jumping in late here, but we've used Hypafix tape over Liam's if it's starting to come off towards the end- his arms are just so skinny and small that he bonks into everything. We also have used this curad tube thing...
    http://www.amazon.com/Curad-Tubular-Stretch-Bandage-Small/dp/B001UIX698/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1272335659&sr=8-8

It's like a skinny mesh sock thing that stretches over arms and legs, but it holds the pod on tight if it needs to be secured. We've had less skin irritation with these than with the coban wrap.
It takes a bit to work out the kinks of making the pod work on little guys, but it's so worth it. :)

  10. Have you tried IV prep. This is what we use on the skin before we put the set on. It forms a sticky surface and helps the set stay put.

  11. Thanks Leslie we have and do use IV Prep!! The pod was coming off of the tape it self. We are now taping the pod down with some tape our rep gave us. It seems to be working!! :)
