Quickly 39 appears on the meter. My heart races as I open a juice for him. He is out of it but thankfully downs his juice. I open another juice and he drinks it just as fast. After a hour of waiting and checking he comes up to 160 a safe number for me to go back to sleep. I lay in bed and set my alarm for a hour later..... another sleepless night.</div><div><br /></div><div>THIS is a perfect example of why I don't sleep. Thank god I woke up when I did....... a number that low he could of had a seizure or even worse. I can't even let my thoughts go to the even worse.</div>Crystall Younghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06697015361657656863noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4354594210007788004.post-85124708900509586392010-12-01T19:54:00.000-08:002010-12-30T06:11:39.712-08:00Acadiana Village<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvsQeypKMdcPX5-kLUKMxgdfwE3oz_CGLc8AqWOArCY3jZDpj7CeZubUFqpr-xQYLHISwmO7bHyUQ0ZC3upGMXZ3YR10nJpf71CecmIo5HMx_kXmfbWajmdlRihexFawXP0JME7947b8s/s1600/IMG_4504.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvsQeypKMdcPX5-kLUKMxgdfwE3oz_CGLc8AqWOArCY3jZDpj7CeZubUFqpr-xQYLHISwmO7bHyUQ0ZC3upGMXZ3YR10nJpf71CecmIo5HMx_kXmfbWajmdlRihexFawXP0JME7947b8s/s320/IMG_4504.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5556477722309212898" /></a><br />We took the kids to Acadian Village. I brake out all of the the equipment to check him, in line while waiting for the train. Looking to my left two little girls were staring at me. She was truly and amazing dog that really put her heart into making us happy. Mallie was such a great alerter. She was just not the right dog for our family. Wildrose wants to make sure they have the right alert dog with the right family. Mallie was scared of loud noises and we are a loud family. Mallie is a country dog and not use to loud city noises. After thinking long and hard we decided to give her back to Wildrose. To my understanding she is doing great with her new owner!!! I miss her dearly! <div><br /></div><div>Wildrose has been training Jazz for us for about 6 months now. Jazz is doing wonderful and will be trained and ready for us in May. Jazz came to visit us about a month ago...... I was truly amazed at how obedient she was. Waiting for our diabetic alert dog Jazz is like waiting to have a baby. In the end it will be so worth the wait! Jazz will be like a having a extra weapon against this terrible disease called Diabetes.<br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div></div>Crystall Younghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06697015361657656863noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4354594210007788004.post-88357164003665016902010-11-20T07:09:00.000-08:002010-11-20T07:58:20.320-08:00Girls Trip<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiop32KXBgUzSri6f0S7DppQiorJ4rLi5SEJ_Y-v5tHTwBk4VPrSxsFDj1NmPbpBA9PdE2kFmhx8x07mEJqMncb-wTrnEtUK_jOsji0kdMLIaOqUiz_Ljw5oWrginnfTiqp-Eno8NvO_SA/s1600/75193_474705677528_782792528_5843864_2845319_n.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiop32KXBgUzSri6f0S7DppQiorJ4rLi5SEJ_Y-v5tHTwBk4VPrSxsFDj1NmPbpBA9PdE2kFmhx8x07mEJqMncb-wTrnEtUK_jOsji0kdMLIaOqUiz_Ljw5oWrginnfTiqp-Eno8NvO_SA/s320/75193_474705677528_782792528_5843864_2845319_n.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5541661807577160674" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikoXDND_coiohNsDawRwmYAz6VrkJcEES8Rz9QVqzPIQ3QFCPU8uS-44DK4p38GZ6sFmTTzJ4BS88ZWfyVxO8d6G8gv54L5MvT9W9kzJKGBR3GAmk8DYUfdUZO93Duw_4VfTrs9-CU7yE/s1600/74039_474705732528_782792528_5843865_1579847_n.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikoXDND_coiohNsDawRwmYAz6VrkJcEES8Rz9QVqzPIQ3QFCPU8uS-44DK4p38GZ6sFmTTzJ4BS88ZWfyVxO8d6G8gv54L5MvT9W9kzJKGBR3GAmk8DYUfdUZO93Duw_4VfTrs9-CU7yE/s320/74039_474705732528_782792528_5843865_1579847_n.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5541661606484375890" /></a><br />A couple weeks ago I went on a girls trip to Florida. E was left with my husband who is wonderful with him and his diabetes. I was looking so forward to getting some sleep. Sleep is something I don't get enough of waking up sometimes 5 times a night. A good night I wake up at least 3 times to check E's blood. I would stay up all night if I had to......... E 's life depends on me. <div><br /></div><div>It is funny first night away from home. I wake up on all of the check times for E. My body is so use to waking up I can't sleep at night.</div><div><br /></div><div>Second night I just expected to not sleep at night and just wake up like always but just sleep in a little. Of course I wake up and my mind starts to wonder. What is his number? Is he High? Is he Low? Did my husband do what I would have done? What if he over sleeps and doesn't get up. I toss and turn. Finally I text him....... How is E? He text's back relax I got it under control. Which I know he does........ but still I can't sleep. In fact I think I sleep worst when I am away from E .........Just thinking about the what ifs. I thought to take some kind of sleep medicine but can't what if something goes wrong and my husband calls me and needs me to help him and I don't hear it because I am knocked out on sleep medicine. </div><div><br /></div><div>Last night with the girls and we are just hanging around relaxing and chatting doing girl stuff. My husband calls me and says don't freak out but we are bringing E to the ER. Don't FREAK out what of course I FREAK out can't breath my heart is racing. I am 6 hours away and it is late at night and of course I didn't drive here. SO I can't just leave. E's blood has been really high and his Ketones are 4.2 extremely high. The doctor says bring him to the ER. This is not our regular doctor and doesn't know E or our family..... knows zero about us. I try and get a hold of myself think think what to do what to do. I call on of my close friends who's daughter has type 1 and husband is an Endocrinologist. She ask me questions and we talk she calms me down. She helps me decide on what to do. </div><div><br /></div><div>I call my husband and tell him what to do first before he brings him to the ER. Is he throwing up........ NO Is he acting sick...... NO. He gives him a shot and plenty of water and liquids. After a couple of hours Ketones come down and high numbers come down. No ER trip.</div><div> Thanks goodness. His Ketones have never been so high and we don't know how they went so high so fast. I think I would have lost it if he would have had to go to the hospital and I was not with my E.</div><div><br /></div><div>The girls trip was lots of fun but no sleep for me. </div>Crystall Younghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06697015361657656863noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4354594210007788004.post-1587867795646534592010-05-20T10:03:00.000-07:002010-05-20T10:26:52.346-07:00Mallie<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCFWhhd17QnEMRlpssZMSsBRElPPcvDoj63ob5lfIK0S4-mmMWKBNftXKwX03ubfeyN6hTqUIY8g-sdLLOhHUqJx2jlB293obg20Ql7J7ejnZeEpcARLZDesyXnhIR0er0nGQgySc10Rw/s1600/_MG_0995.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCFWhhd17QnEMRlpssZMSsBRElPPcvDoj63ob5lfIK0S4-mmMWKBNftXKwX03ubfeyN6hTqUIY8g-sdLLOhHUqJx2jlB293obg20Ql7J7ejnZeEpcARLZDesyXnhIR0er0nGQgySc10Rw/s320/_MG_0995.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473399430743118706" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEic6hpf71N-gXDKVV9ZcbT_9rSPYgDxDuL4FvjW8iE0sfHi8f32VbgQLmh6Fl7T2eKIpeWaH5R6himfE5R5jAO4Uh7krReHmJzIpCcCqS5m_GeEhDYkxVAM-yIsXW5z_SmmNcjlotBtj4k/s1600/_MG_1035.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEic6hpf71N-gXDKVV9ZcbT_9rSPYgDxDuL4FvjW8iE0sfHi8f32VbgQLmh6Fl7T2eKIpeWaH5R6himfE5R5jAO4Uh7krReHmJzIpCcCqS5m_GeEhDYkxVAM-yIsXW5z_SmmNcjlotBtj4k/s320/_MG_1035.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473399426014022386" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiW_TuXob_-xyeb5xT72AOAG3-E9tCzm6_jLnjLJB9K7dqRZS8VyUo_Ff7GiR5xB4ou6AKggOpmZWmTyNfAqrTrvyCEr_lTteyqoS-KAHJ0mYAcZNZ2EXOvvvRX8gu4v3p8wqU6k6iOshs/s1600/_MG_1046.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 207px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiW_TuXob_-xyeb5xT72AOAG3-E9tCzm6_jLnjLJB9K7dqRZS8VyUo_Ff7GiR5xB4ou6AKggOpmZWmTyNfAqrTrvyCEr_lTteyqoS-KAHJ0mYAcZNZ2EXOvvvRX8gu4v3p8wqU6k6iOshs/s320/_MG_1046.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473399416210753714" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAZKZey5_JHuDoXMGpx4tt55MPocsYrZn1i4vgrnuYicLxglU6kWcYdi6jvXwbaK-jn6oWwiN3s94nwDVN5lT34zOpU8IugAS0sGZNRrfCuXy058fLWBXLUTwuWD95dV_9xlCPULwaskg/s1600/_MG_1032.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAZKZey5_JHuDoXMGpx4tt55MPocsYrZn1i4vgrnuYicLxglU6kWcYdi6jvXwbaK-jn6oWwiN3s94nwDVN5lT34zOpU8IugAS0sGZNRrfCuXy058fLWBXLUTwuWD95dV_9xlCPULwaskg/s320/_MG_1032.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5473399415808002370" /></a>Mallie alerted....... checked he was 85 right before lunch so I decided to give E his lunch plus a little extra carbs to bring up the dropping low. We are so excited!!! Wildrose sent a trainer and Mallie to our house.....the trainer spent 4 days with us. <div><br /></div><div>She has picked up lows before they even happened! </div><div><br /></div><div>-One morning I woke up and brought Mallie outside brought her back in...... I went to the restroom came out and she started Alerting to me. I check Ean and he is 96. I am still building up our trust so I didn't want to wake E. I decided to take her for a walk then come back and check Ean again. I come back in and Ellis is up but not Ean so I quietly go into the bed room and to get Ellis. Mallie came in the room with me and started to alert me. I checked Ean and he was 69 .....40 minutes had passed between the first alert.</div><div><br /></div><div>-She does a great jog alerting on Highs also!</div><div><br /></div><div>Mallie is so sweet and so easy going. She is having to adjust to our loud family. It has been a full time job getting her use to our life style. Lots of work! I know the end result is going to be so worth it. I am in contact with Wildrose and they are helping get Mallie adjusted. Giving me the ins and outs of training.</div><div><br /></div><div>Ean being so young he needs a easy going dog like Mallie. Mallie alerts a very soft just like her spirit. I know no dogs are perfect and Mallie gets scared very easy. We have to help her over come her fears of load noises. I think the end result is going to be such a wonderful tool in helping Ean with dangerous lows. Hopefully she will work out for our family and replace Jazz.... I am falling in love with her.<br /><div><br /></div></div>Crystall Younghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06697015361657656863noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4354594210007788004.post-43180920871135283642010-05-04T09:07:00.000-07:002010-05-04T09:12:18.108-07:00Meet Jazz<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4tJe4hVn6CdeCrrVvBZFWOhCEb1zf5gqv_cLmmS2n1UpyCw1i5C-MUC3EJ5rVIUg6rtVe-kR6t0zjclCmBFZfWyNgtAvJzHoUql7BYJSHV9QWihzUAA7iE2vyqlc60Ore3phN92vYdQw/s1600/2010-05-02+15.36.50.jpg"><img style="display:block; Wildrose is such a beautiful place in the middle of no where. I learned so much about Diabetic Alert Dogs (DAD). I am just so amazed how well-trained these dogs are. A diabetic dog <span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:Arial;"> gives a trained signal to alert its partner to low or high blood sugar levels</span><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" ;font-family:Arial;"><br /></span> Here are some of the events that took place....<div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>- For example one of the DAD dogs alerted on this little girl (her owner).....the dog was inside with the Mom and the dog started to alert a low. The girl was outside playing kick ball!!!!! <div><br /></div><div>-We were about to eat lunch with everyone when Bear (DAD dog) and his owner sit down next to us. Bear starts to alert on Ean right away. I checked E's blood and it was 68!!! It was so amazing to see this happen. Wow- is all I can say.</div><div><br /></div><div>-A family is training there own DAD dog.( Gracie) They picked up Gracie from wildrose at six weeks. Wildrose starts to train the dogs starting at one week. They introduce the low scent to the puppies at this young of age. They let the puppy sleep with the little girl in the hotel room. 3:00 am the puppy starts to lick and nibble on the little girls ears. The mom thought maybe the puppy needed to go to the restroom. When the mom returned from outside she placed the dog back into bed with her daughter. Right away the puppy stared to lick her daughter. The mom decided to check he daughter..... she was low!!!! AT SIX WEEKS THIS PUPPY ALERTED!!</div><div><br /></div><div>Our puppy JAZZ is 6 weeks old. She is a cute yellowish white puppy. E loved Jazz..... he kept saying puppy over and over again. It is going to be a good while before Jazz is trained enough for her to come home with us. During the training process we will send low scents to the trainer. We will try a see Jazz through out the training. I just can't wait!!! Its going to so worth the wait in the end.</div><div><br /></div><div>We did have a little stress with E on the trip. When we first arrived at wildrose E had tons of lows. I am thinking he was just so excited about everything. We adjusted his carb ratio which helped out with some of the lows.</div><div><br /></div><div>On Saturday morning I checked E's blood at 3:00 am it was 500!!! I called the doctor and she told me to give insulin by shot and change out the pod. E woke up just fine with the new pod. We eat breakfast bolus and make our way to wildrose. I check his blood around 9:30 and its 500 again!!! Call the doctor again and do another shot to bring his blood down. She tells me to change out the new pod. The doctor mention to me that this being the 3rd pod to just stop working for no reason maybe I received a bad batch of pods. I am going to call Omnipod and look into this. </div><div><br /></div><div>Needless to say our our trip was great success. We look forward to bringing Jazz home!!! </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div></div></div>Crystall Younghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06697015361657656863noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4354594210007788004.post-2599539967634781732010-04-28T17:00:00.000-07:002010-04-28T17:33:31.396-07:00<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwQQAIJxKQpKLDkuj-K33w0kIJ4b_lgG7_Hf4AcJ8eH8P2kFpFMZk1ARTeT8c7D9IzIbQ7xo_BCybdgoejSyNGczHfo5vlt8Snw3bHYm8fNL12AtkwR9nNQm9P8oaraixP58ESMPoXT6k/s1600/IMG_1934.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwQQAIJxKQpKLDkuj-K33w0kIJ4b_lgG7_Hf4AcJ8eH8P2kFpFMZk1ARTeT8c7D9IzIbQ7xo_BCybdgoejSyNGczHfo5vlt8Snw3bHYm8fNL12AtkwR9nNQm9P8oaraixP58ESMPoXT6k/s320/IMG_1934.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465350073548768034" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRKBPlSlfzzHSKFUSEKIno7IUAwLMKwjS2ksWqh_UT93_P-_amnkHqBIBMkuiKxJ9rrQDJXiE16DpAwhvbvKEszqYAceL6uLLYaRyRwuPqy-ozqWeaao8cJZX45cbrKSmNnL-ddAPryHE/s1600/IMG_1930.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRKBPlSlfzzHSKFUSEKIno7IUAwLMKwjS2ksWqh_UT93_P-_amnkHqBIBMkuiKxJ9rrQDJXiE16DpAwhvbvKEszqYAceL6uLLYaRyRwuPqy-ozqWeaao8cJZX45cbrKSmNnL-ddAPryHE/s320/IMG_1930.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465349188717727362" /></a><br />After last night highs things evened out over the night. The new pod and site change seemed to do the trick. <div><br /></div><div>Today the twins were playing out side for about one hour or so. I left the house right before they came in from playing. I got a text about 45 minutes later from Candace my nanny saying E was 55 so she gave him juice. He was very alert and happy to drink the juice. Candace walked out the room for a second to text me about his low. About 5 minutes after the text Candace calls to tell me E passed out in his chair half way falling over to his brothers chair face forward. She had to pick him up and move him around before he woke up. She told me he would open his eyes and then close them again......then his eyes would roll back before he shut them again. He was very lethargic. Before she decide to give him another juice she checked his blood 120. Candace said there was no way he was just sleeping. It happened very fast. <div><br /></div><div>I still don't understand what happened 55 is not a number for him to pass out. I have been so very sad all day.</div><div><br /></div><div> I was not there when this happened. Candace did a great job and had the situation under control but...... me not being there upsets me. I understand things happen but I can't kick this feeling I have. </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>I called the doctor and she said the meter could have been off and maybe he was lower then 55. Maybe he was dropping fast and it took a little while for the juice to kick in. He might have dropped some more before going up again. </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>The Doctor raised his insulin to carb ratio from 20 to 22. Hopefully this will help with his lows. I am very thank full everything turned out the way it did and Candace checked his blood when she did. </div></div>Crystall Younghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06697015361657656863noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4354594210007788004.post-6975688427278906782010-04-27T18:48:00.000-07:002010-04-27T19:05:40.861-07:00Pod change and high numbers<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHX6rWKG5Ty4vrXAz8B3w0RZnMkETiNNxoSmfClpDfO3SzwJ5UPxYFGdyoOPhAYOhrjtEqnDh2xE_8mJXvit7YpZ7UbB56oCJ31MaGnXslYI4geFdp7p-EMT0iAswUJKIj8lPMGO4Tx8A/s1600/IMG_1996.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHX6rWKG5Ty4vrXAz8B3w0RZnMkETiNNxoSmfClpDfO3SzwJ5UPxYFGdyoOPhAYOhrjtEqnDh2xE_8mJXvit7YpZ7UbB56oCJ31MaGnXslYI4geFdp7p-EMT0iAswUJKIj8lPMGO4Tx8A/s320/IMG_1996.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465003185671077954" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIjmmGjSrNRSm9BA0aYf6ovecvve8JO_k5qlYpUIdmXfNVEtEeZ3ApOerDLhYRPyBJHUcAzxnrb9Yngyqwt4juPX6kriaJCYZJJN7yLCTvREyCOzbkSmzrEeVCOuhMkPrxQ-6V5R2a6Ew/s1600/IMG_1994.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIjmmGjSrNRSm9BA0aYf6ovecvve8JO_k5qlYpUIdmXfNVEtEeZ3ApOerDLhYRPyBJHUcAzxnrb9Yngyqwt4juPX6kriaJCYZJJN7yLCTvREyCOzbkSmzrEeVCOuhMkPrxQ-6V5R2a6Ew/s320/IMG_1994.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5465003181872705122" /></a><br />We changed out E's pod today. When its time to make a pod change I get so nervous. We decided to put a pod on his thigh. E woke up from his nap in the high 200's. A hour later right before dinner he was in the high 300's. Fixed E his dinner and bolus for the high and dinner. A hour later checked him and he was almost 500!!! I called the Doctor and she said I need to give him insulin from a shot and change out the pod. Ok here we go again. I decided to use his other thigh (not ready to give up on my new pod site) <div><br /></div><div>The new pod site and the 1/2 a unit of insulin (shot) brought his blood down fast. 1 1/2 hours later he was 68!!!! 20 minutes later after one juice only 71. Gave E one more juice and that brought him up to 117. I am guessing it must of been a bad pod???? I hope every thing is under control and we will have a uneventful night. </div>Crystall Younghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06697015361657656863noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4354594210007788004.post-31089989114594375692010-04-26T16:49:00.000-07:002010-04-26T17:17:04.311-07:00First week with the Omni Pod<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrqMXA9uI_jDlKfBhDc3TKxiWM_sW0xLhwPZTh42qIgEqFkZWNLbrtMZQTpXi8bifaj38PakrIRXoriZeOfs4zOIfBRrM05ZHCBO-FsxZolHyZTQ5j-tvimmWwmNcJaN5vn6Q3njgOcCw/s1600/IMG_1983.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrqMXA9uI_jDlKfBhDc3TKxiWM_sW0xLhwPZTh42qIgEqFkZWNLbrtMZQTpXi8bifaj38PakrIRXoriZeOfs4zOIfBRrM05ZHCBO-FsxZolHyZTQ5j-tvimmWwmNcJaN5vn6Q3njgOcCw/s320/IMG_1983.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464604119811936898" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjESIMJ_Y80Yk1Z5lopztuVjHJQiN115cq1RpRBo9vKSurVg6Ful_DGJ4UkmL2HgLVJ4bUzGtW0O70tiJYZKlC85F4AgBhVr_cCoZD8qx3uF1cIHkZueHTNaZ-nNOqjLz5Sa8V571v35po/s1600/IMG_1981.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjESIMJ_Y80Yk1Z5lopztuVjHJQiN115cq1RpRBo9vKSurVg6Ful_DGJ4UkmL2HgLVJ4bUzGtW0O70tiJYZKlC85F4AgBhVr_cCoZD8qx3uF1cIHkZueHTNaZ-nNOqjLz5Sa8V571v35po/s320/IMG_1981.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464604110249610962" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmN8vjSRXOfdfQDISf2axFnueondwhrgHx0Ffu5n03zoYrh8PIrb6Zf2eqwZOhcbBUoxq6hAHOn_GCWGAhLUuGDkYbxHQ5q4V6DRxwhk0wjOYxTZz9gyNMHy1wZ-_FWZzjevegvlkmigg/s1600/IMG_1988.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmN8vjSRXOfdfQDISf2axFnueondwhrgHx0Ffu5n03zoYrh8PIrb6Zf2eqwZOhcbBUoxq6hAHOn_GCWGAhLUuGDkYbxHQ5q4V6DRxwhk0wjOYxTZz9gyNMHy1wZ-_FWZzjevegvlkmigg/s320/IMG_1988.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464604102809497874" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAdBwSz2F7Y6AByJ-U0l3Y69F1wmcg_FxPCGkiAoUi0cQ_bM-3Z7x1CacQR03vWp9NtR7C922PJu_cP_-OFgaZZTFEYDQmFtDPU9IjcgZcyLWRFxQ0rRq0F8PUJ6zk-Li9DgWWLHqEd8w/s1600/IMG_1993.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAdBwSz2F7Y6AByJ-U0l3Y69F1wmcg_FxPCGkiAoUi0cQ_bM-3Z7x1CacQR03vWp9NtR7C922PJu_cP_-OFgaZZTFEYDQmFtDPU9IjcgZcyLWRFxQ0rRq0F8PUJ6zk-Li9DgWWLHqEd8w/s320/IMG_1993.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464604093882972386" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT9-xICBgedR4IWQCMxRPH2UzC6tYVuwhK84s17ReZCW9zJISOCWE2StoCakLQJq2eIMAAxBXcXQkj4DYnSk_CPqkhG9cHXXP93e7OEYal9Q9LMkWtpUInD6PXNCjSMsTEanLLdi3_Ww0/s1600/2010-04-25_13.06.12.jpg"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT9-xICBgedR4IWQCMxRPH2UzC6tYVuwhK84s17ReZCW9zJISOCWE2StoCakLQJq2eIMAAxBXcXQkj4DYnSk_CPqkhG9cHXXP93e7OEYal9Q9LMkWtpUInD6PXNCjSMsTEanLLdi3_Ww0/s320/2010-04-25_13.06.12.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464604086405444706" /></a><br />We are loving our Omni Pod so much. It is making our life so much easier!! Meal times are a little less painful for us. The pump makes counting carbs so much faster. <div><br /></div><div>Nights are still very hard for me. I have been waking up at least 4 times a night on a good night to check him. I am still very nervous about night time lows and even highs. I am hoping once I can trust the pump a little better at night I won't have to wake up so much. Ean's numbers in the past were always crazy on any given day or night he would be in the high 300's to low 70's. I am finding with the pump we are almost always in the 100 range. E's personality has also been so much better. I can just tell he just feels better on the pump. </div><div><br /></div><div>I just want to thank all of the Diabetic Moms for all of the help this week. You guys have really helped me out so much during this pumping experience. It is so nice to know I can contact someone if something comes up in the future. You guys are really awesome!!!!</div><div><br /></div><div>We went to Festival International this weekend and brought the babies. The pump makes outings less stressful. The twins had so much fun!! We shall have to see how pod number 2 goes. We might have to put some kind of tape to help the pod stay on. Ean is very rough and I have a feeling he was messing with the pod. E went to bed with his blood in the mid 200's. At first I was a little nervous giving a correction in the middle of the night. Ean not getting is night time Lantus shot made me really nervous also. I corrected his blood twice in the middle of the night. Not knowing if he would drop from the correction. I woke up every two hours to check his blood. Yes I know that is a little to much but I was so worried. <div><br /></div><div>The PDM keep telling me to check for Ketones. This really stressed me out. I didn't want to check E in the middle of the night for ketones.... which involves me putting a cotton ball in his diaper. ( I checked for ketones right before his bed time) I know I have to check for ketones but reading it on the PDM was scary... </div><div><br /></div><div>His blood finally went down around 3:00 am to 189. Way better then the 300's. I woke up around 5:00 to check his number again to make sure it was not dropping low. When I would finally drift to sleep I would have dreams about checking his blood , lows and highs. Really the first night with the pod felt like the first night on my own from the hospital. </div><div><br /></div><div>Today was way better. His numbers where pretty much under 200 all day and he had <b>no </b><b>lows</b>!!! E's blood has not been this good ever before. Hopefully tonight will be better.</div><div><br /></div><div>I am a little disappointed just found out today that I can't down load the Omni Pod Software to print out his daily logs from the PDM. The pod doesn't link to a MacBook. :( I will have to see about using a different computer. Maybe in the near future they will fix this problem. I am so loving pump life. </div>Crystall Younghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06697015361657656863noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4354594210007788004.post-58607820679410926112010-04-19T15:41:00.000-07:002010-04-20T17:24:10.027-07:00Pump in on<div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#551A8B;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;"><br /></span></span></div><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_Kr7vYLe7n1qPOxy8hy4eQxPAaf1iSgx5C8YCLpIrkaRPEBPPIWRNaaW9qSjT3bonFhX2adEknvTlwkIiuTneJxMdgwc1OopHC7MnPsu-bbrEtOXbUE2DmuMNK_uC7l-f7qHyi8v58Qc/s1600/IMG_1954.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_Kr7vYLe7n1qPOxy8hy4eQxPAaf1iSgx5C8YCLpIrkaRPEBPPIWRNaaW9qSjT3bonFhX2adEknvTlwkIiuTneJxMdgwc1OopHC7MnPsu-bbrEtOXbUE2DmuMNK_uC7l-f7qHyi8v58Qc/s320/IMG_1954.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461986020559971522" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQc6OD6u8AgMTSJfFxPCNoOe_3h06-wC_vxIRm9l9T2yr_Z2P6cIjqMcz5_2BRRTcXWNOQ7JmVHp0MPlQNv4OWpx85MzjOyx3Xrk29Zz1cO_VXoB4Pp1yGdw3yuq17VZIiiFyZiYyVdac/s1600/IMG_1953.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQc6OD6u8AgMTSJfFxPCNoOe_3h06-wC_vxIRm9l9T2yr_Z2P6cIjqMcz5_2BRRTcXWNOQ7JmVHp0MPlQNv4OWpx85MzjOyx3Xrk29Zz1cO_VXoB4Pp1yGdw3yuq17VZIiiFyZiYyVdac/s320/IMG_1953.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461986009389596754" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCdNUIpz-tljBBwn5liEjKbPbpEpci4kc8vALPM7dfugzBObOy89fLcU1c3Yqw4E_mHG-nkUlvszYta4MeJECiYwgz9Q4Rl-1G3w3wuPGT70acHUbIXtn5iBifWAr6bfFLgzoKicBRwP4/s1600/IMG_1950.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCdNUIpz-tljBBwn5liEjKbPbpEpci4kc8vALPM7dfugzBObOy89fLcU1c3Yqw4E_mHG-nkUlvszYta4MeJECiYwgz9Q4Rl-1G3w3wuPGT70acHUbIXtn5iBifWAr6bfFLgzoKicBRwP4/s320/IMG_1950.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5461986003246118418" /></a><br />After 3 hours of training we are now using the pod. The omnipod rep will spend at three hours training us. Talked the rep into coming to our house instead of me going to the Doctors office to train. Us being at home will be way easier on E. He will be able to play and take a nap while we learn the pod. <div><br /></div><div>The omnipod is a tube free pump! I will put insulin in the pod and then stick it to E. The pod will insert the needle with a push of a button. I should only have to change the pump site every three days..... way better then five shots a day. I hold the PDM (Personal Diabetes Manger) to deliver the insulin to him. The pump will calculate the insulin dose for me. I will still have to count the amount of carbs he eats. It also has a built in blood glucose meter, which means one less thing to carry around. E can wear the pump when he takes a bath or goes swimming! Hopefully the pump will help reduce highs and lows a little better. The flexibility of the pump will be awesome! </div>Crystall Younghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06697015361657656863noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4354594210007788004.post-34284295781595120422010-04-07T09:19:00.000-07:002010-04-07T09:41:29.188-07:00I DONT want to eat today<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3DpHHmfwgnNXaMOBnTF3dqv0VavNRwr_9ymls8OGgklQKrTBnCaQkCj_FlhDO5cFW_HeSp-WM0beWmwlhMcq5fcle_hyp4T7de91njoQpIxrTcB2dN7xZdYqSdPgSS8o0Nzi7M100DrA/s1600/IMG_1910.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3DpHHmfwgnNXaMOBnTF3dqv0VavNRwr_9ymls8OGgklQKrTBnCaQkCj_FlhDO5cFW_HeSp-WM0beWmwlhMcq5fcle_hyp4T7de91njoQpIxrTcB2dN7xZdYqSdPgSS8o0Nzi7M100DrA/s320/IMG_1910.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5457435684835393682" /></a><br />Feeding a 21 month old with <b>Diabetes</b> can be difficult sometimes. I count the food to the exact <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">carb</span> count. Weighing measuring and counting everything down to the last 2 <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">carb</span> cracker. Almost halfway E spits out his food and starts laughing. This is so not funny to me!! Ellis thinks it is funny also, which makes E spit out more food. I have to get creative and start pulling out toys to take his mind off spitting out the precious food I counted. Lets hope this doesn't last long. We get his pump on April 19!!! This should make eating a little easier.Crystall Younghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06697015361657656863noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4354594210007788004.post-92074979178338054802010-04-05T17:21:00.000-07:002010-04-05T17:56:09.927-07:00Easter Lows<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXZpTzXoKi0Cmb_erCcH8nLAQtmB_F0ngPBAPQnpyYu9eHyK_GgIFIBjiCXKEUrt4F1zk0w9lR09AX6Mz-DH4Vew9xMCZWYIW0iYLZS66_FL1xR1RTscPX-pKKW50s8aOcsx-_C1YQsgQ/s1600/Picture+4.png"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 190px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXZpTzXoKi0Cmb_erCcH8nLAQtmB_F0ngPBAPQnpyYu9eHyK_GgIFIBjiCXKEUrt4F1zk0w9lR09AX6Mz-DH4Vew9xMCZWYIW0iYLZS66_FL1xR1RTscPX-pKKW50s8aOcsx-_C1YQsgQ/s320/Picture+4.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456821873777793266" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo4n1weGfdFInCTkB5Ryr65Y_2IRsplpc8v-Z56JKs083GIydzZKRgxb-qvih2uUsH4wL1gR0i27K1vWQjAkC9QbNI-4mFUDH4ofTth2-4aBxc3Wi0EiO5iiv7Zne9Rb5MpdSpzieN748/s1600/Picture+3.png"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 272px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo4n1weGfdFInCTkB5Ryr65Y_2IRsplpc8v-Z56JKs083GIydzZKRgxb-qvih2uUsH4wL1gR0i27K1vWQjAkC9QbNI-4mFUDH4ofTth2-4aBxc3Wi0EiO5iiv7Zne9Rb5MpdSpzieN748/s320/Picture+3.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456821861172842626" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi40jgP3m24-dlnkGJermGEFmIxjFVxo-jfFLWMQOf6xTQFWLQqrXfaXYLZ6RgrYbOj67IoYKSNbLEL6_f5KRHJtPJi7keuRwlN5AQlt2A7AG8wX9-D3eNirMT0xSJyHcv4NFbHHEqAma4/s1600/Picture+2.png"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 248px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi40jgP3m24-dlnkGJermGEFmIxjFVxo-jfFLWMQOf6xTQFWLQqrXfaXYLZ6RgrYbOj67IoYKSNbLEL6_f5KRHJtPJi7keuRwlN5AQlt2A7AG8wX9-D3eNirMT0xSJyHcv4NFbHHEqAma4/s320/Picture+2.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456821851579370482" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3mY3ZC4JglmXg_pChWGx9kqZfpeEjqQZRJ_t7Ydx7OyeCei74AKXOK2E-P-wtQvVCtjw2DnsM6XM8S9cR7HjFew1xvjoPoJM31EoNL7xtbXN2dJL5lxYfYSaSevNKNIlYq2LNN1YxZbI/s1600/Picture+1.png"><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 243px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3mY3ZC4JglmXg_pChWGx9kqZfpeEjqQZRJ_t7Ydx7OyeCei74AKXOK2E-P-wtQvVCtjw2DnsM6XM8S9cR7HjFew1xvjoPoJM31EoNL7xtbXN2dJL5lxYfYSaSevNKNIlYq2LNN1YxZbI/s320/Picture+1.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5456821843367399874" /></a><br />Easter was such a beautiful day. We packed up the family and drove 20 minutes to my Aunt Dee's house. Terry and Dee cooked such a wonderful Brunch. I guess for most Diabetic kids Easter can bring on highs. E doesn't eat candy or cake or any kind of sweets <i>yet</i> (What he doesn't know won't hurt him). E enjoyed just looking for eggs. It was so funny he would find the candy and just throw it down. He loved picking up the eggs and putting them into the basket. All of the running around brought on lows. All day long we checked his blood and gave him juice to bring up the numbers. Next Easter I am sure we will be fighting the Easter Highs.Crystall Younghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06697015361657656863noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4354594210007788004.post-54751288617672624312010-03-31T13:52:00.000-07:002010-03-31T14:47:07.790-07:00Carb Counting... The lowest Ean's blood has ever been so far was 45.... the scary part was he was running around and playing I had no clue. I checked twice because he showed no signs of having a low. I read three books.... on how to get you babies to sleep. When E go diagnosed with diabetes I remember the nurses waking us up at night to check E's blood. Thinking in my head can't wait to get home so I can sleep all night long. Little did I know I would not sleep at night. Last night I checked E and his blood was 279 which is high but he is high at night and then drops to a safe number on most GOOD nights. Around 4:30 I checked him again because he woke up Crying. Before Diabetes I would have just let him cry. His blood was 179 still a good number. E keep crying I didn't know if he was crying because his blood was dropping or because he just wanted to sleep with me. Yes I said sleep with me. Its been a bad habit that we started since diabetes. I just want to make sure E is ok so when he wakes up... he gets to lay with me until he falls back to sleep . Then I make sure his blood is at a good number and off to his bed he goes. I am so lucky Ellis sleeps all night....doesn't even wake up when E is crying. My sweet Ellis. One of my biggest fears...... Ean dropping low at night and having a seizure or even worse.Crystall Younghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06697015361657656863noreply@blogger.com2
